Access Engineer

Must understand and perform various Provisioning and Engineering tasks, including Hub, Circuit Design,

Network Configurations, Capacity Optimization, and Inventory Management within a host of access

systems to include Adtran TA5K, Overture 6500, TBS (Metasolv), XNG (Granite) and various carrier

ordering and ticketing systems.

 Proactively manage order Critical Date/Milestones and facility-affecting issues to ensure order

completion, within established time-sensitive intervals.

 Research and address order processing discrepancies—collaborating with internal departments,

customers and vendors to ensure successful transport delivery.

 Identifies Inventory and Facilities discrepancies and initiates appropriate actions—including, performing

Engineering system (e.g., Xpercom and TBS) maintenance via archive updates, circuit information changes

and process-enhancing modifications.

 Provide technical support and order status to internal and external customers.

 Provisioning of Trunks/PBX and Collocation facilities.

 Track, document and compile Engineering information related to Customer orders, Optimization orders,

Internal equipment, Network and ILEC/LEC facilities, and document incoming facility information (circuit

id’s, order numbers, etc) against Engineering information.

 Submit, track and facilitate completion on orders to Local Exchange and Cable Carriers, using various

internal and external systems.

 Coordinate and manage LEC projects to maximize network efficiencies, decrease circuit cost and correct

shared records.

 Escalate with carriers and drive carrier performance/feedback on order-affecting issues.

 2 nd tier support for customer communication on technical transport-related issues.

 Must be able to decide and obtain the ideal cost-effective path in order for the service solution provided

to benefit both the customer and the company.

 Identifies cost saving opportunities and works with Engineering and Provisioning to maintain port capacity

utilization of the assigned core network.
